BESCHREIBUNGEN DER WEINE:
Conde Valdemar Finca Alto Cantabria 2019 Viñedo Singular95 Punkte.
Bodegas Valdemar’s outstanding single vineyard was planted entirely with Viura in 1975, which was a bold move at the time. But how prescient it proved. Fermented entirely in new French oak, it’s a fine, balanced, harmonious white that delivers remarkable concentration and longevity for a wine with only 13% alcohol. Chalky, floral and intense, it remains one of the region’s great white wine bargains.

Conde Valdemar Edición Limitada 201694 Punkte.
Antonio Orto Vellé made this impressive modern Rioja from a blend of Tempranillo with 25% Maturana Tinta and 15% Graciano, aged in a combination of new French and 7% American oak. Floral, sappy and intense, with grassy top notes, plum and damson fruit and serious underlying grip, this has the concentration and balance to develop nicely in bottle.

Balcón de Pilatos Maturana 201794 Punkte.
Balcón de Pilatos comes from three terraces in Yécora at an altitude of 500 metres, planted as recently as 2009. One of the best solo expressions of Maturana Tinta, it wouldn’t look out of place in a line up of top Cabernet Francs from around the world. Textured, grassy and smooth with black cherry and capsicum fruit and refined, scented oak.

La Gargantilla Garnacha 201794 Punkte.
A single 6.7-hectare parcel in Tudelilla, planted back in 1983, supplies the grapes for this superb, stylishly packaged Garnacha from Bodegas Valdemar. Comparatively low in alcohol at 13.7%, it’s a stony, subtle, wild herb-scented red with understated 87% new wood, a nip of savoury tannin and bright red cherry and raspberry fruit.
